SLJ Week 1 Activity 1

 LI: To collect materials needed to successfully complete our weekly superpower building missions with Nano Girl. 

This morning LS2 worked in groups with our Year 4 students to help them create their first Summer Learning Journey blog posts. PBS are still at school this week so finding some of the materials we needed for our treasure hunt was easy. Our challenge is going to be able to find all the materials we need at home now. I found this activity interesting because I am looking forward to the activities that are yet to come.

Art Colouring Book

LI: To experiment with colours.

My art

This morning we tried one of this year's Kick Start Summer Learning Journey activities. The purpose of this task was to experiment with colors by mixing them from the original palette with pop colors. This allowed me to recolor famous paintings and images of landmarks around the world. Today, I recolored a famous painting by Mohammad Melehi which is displayed in Morocco. I recreated it by adding different colors. I repeated the colors which made it more attractive. I enjoyed completing this activity as I could learn more about color combinations and setting the right colors.

Guy Fawkes

 LI: to identify the keywords in the text

Learning Space 2 and Room 5 have come together to work with each - other. Learning Space 2 were teaching Rm 5 about keywords and summarisation. The text we were reading was Guy Fawkes which is tomorrow night. Through reading the text we were writing down keywords. Out of the list we wrote we had to pick 20 important words. From the 20 we had to pick the 6 most important, and using those 6 we summed up the text with a few sentences. Guy Fawkes was a day where a man named Guy Fawkes tried to assassinate the King by using barrels of gunpowder.

Te Reo

This week we  have been learning the meaning of New Zealand place names and locating them on a map

Visual language

We are looking at static images. This week the image is from 

Charlie's Superhero Under pants by Lee Wildish. I looked at Modality for my DLO.

 

Vocabulary

This week we were learning the names of baby animals. I chose to do a DLO on  a dog.

This was our Te Reo task. we needed to draw and label the parts of a wharenui.

 

Proverbs

Proverbs tell us little sayings that make a point. They are not always true.

Reciprocal Teaching

This is the recodring sheet we filled in last week for Reciprocal Teaching . we learnt to work together in a group to complete the predictions , clarifications ,questions and summaries.

 

Life Education

This week we did some learning with Harold in the life education caravan. We learnt about feelings zones and how to stay in the green zone.

We created a DLO to explain what collective nouns are. We found some interesting.

Concrete and Abstract nouns

We have learnt about the difference between concrete and abstract nouns.

Light and sound

This afternoon Room 5 and LS1 went to the reserve and did an expeniment. We needed to put our hands up when we heard  the clapper we made a long line beside the water . Ms k was at one end when she clapped the sound traveled down the line people put there hands up in a wave we saw the clapper before we saw the sound because light travels faster than sound.

Grammar - Good or Well

My Opinion

This week we needed to decide in our thinking groups if we should or shouldn't have prize giving. We decided we should have prize giving.

Different Opinions

In our thinking groups we looked at a text that has different opinions. The issue was should we have  prize-giving. We looked at the vocabulary and found some definitions. We talked about our own opinion we wrote one reason we should and one reason we shouldn't have prize-giving.

I hear

When I think of my school

I hear 

Crying and shouting like you got hurt

I hear typing and talking like you have your own business. 

I hear the bell ringing like it's time for round two. 

When we get in class we read books but there just outside the top window.

As if it had never ceased to be.

But only needed to listen when the teacher comes 

we are quiet as a mouse.
